Time to get moving!

Wow...I read this article on America's waistline and was shocked!

I have heard it, seen it, that America's waistlines keep getting bigger but to see it put in perspective was shocking!

I don't believe in gauging ones health based on the numbers on a scale since your weight can fluctuate up to 5 pounds any given day. I also don't go on the size you wear since vanity sizing is the rage for clothing manufacturers, but your waistline IS a good indicator of health as is your BMI.  Your waistline measurement is a good indicator of whether or not you are setting yourself up for specific diseases related to carrying too much weight.  Also BMI take into consideration your height and your weight and lets you know where your healthy weight range is and it is a pretty broad range. For example someone my height to have a 'normal' BMI of 18.5-24.9 can range from 118 to 159 pounds. As you can see that is a pretty flexible range for a variety of frames. I know that my body frame build is medium so I try to target to be somewhere in the middle of 118-159 pounds whereas someone with a petite frame should target the mid to lower spectrum.

Here is a link to check your BMI and below is a BMI chart

Don't have a scale, haven't a clue what you weigh?  Measure your waist- for females a waistline measurement of 35 inches or over or 40 inches and over for men can indicate if you are at risk for certain diseases onset by excess weight.

Know your numbers!!! If you find yourself to be alongside of the majority, talk to your doctor about starting an exercise regimen and a change of diet.  Take baby steps towards a healthy lifestyle and don't expect results overnight.  Simply cutting back your portions just a little by little and adding in a few minutes of light exercise each day increasing just a bit each week will bring results.  You CAN be healthy!

This is a battle worth fighting, you can win and being healthy is a GREAT prize!
